About the recipe

Coscorões are traditional Christmas fried pastries, known for their crispy texture and scalloped shape.

The thin dough fries quickly and has a simple cinnamon sugar finish.

Ingredients

  • 500 g flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 60 g butter
  • 80 ml of brandy or orange juice
  • Orange zest
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Oil for frying
  • Sugar and cinnamon

Method

  1. Mix flour, eggs, butter, liquid, zest and salt.
  2. Knead until smooth.
  3. Let it rest.
  4. Roll out the dough very thinly and cut into strips.
  5. Fry until golden.
  6. Roll in sugar with cinnamon.

Tips from Empório Portugal

  • Thin dough ensures crispiness.
  • Resting the dough makes it easier to roll out.
  • If you use brandy, keep the amount moderate.

Possible substitutions in Brazil

  • Orange juice replaces brandy for a non-alcoholic version.
  • A pastry wheel helps create the traditional shape.

Pairing

Coffee or black tea. If alcoholic drinks are served at the table: content intended for people over 18 years of age. Drink in moderation.
