About the Recipe

Walnut cake is a family table recipe, with a toasted flavor and moist texture.

It can be served plain, with powdered sugar, or with a subtle filling for special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of ground walnuts
  • 200 g of flour
  • 180 g of sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 120 ml of milk
  • 100 g of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • Cinnamon optional

Preparation Method

  1. Beat butter and sugar.
  2. Add eggs one by one.
  3. Add milk.
  4. Mix flour, walnuts, baking powder, and cinnamon.
  5. Pour into a greased pan.
  6. Bake until a toothpick comes out clean.

Tips from Empório Portugal

  • Lightly toasting the walnuts enhances the flavor.
  • Do not grind everything finely; some pieces add texture.
  • Let it cool before cutting.

Possible Substitutions in Brazil

  • Brazil nuts can be used in part of the recipe.
  • Milk can be replaced with neutral plant-based milk.

Pairing

Coffee, black tea, or Tawny Port Wine. Content intended for those over 18 years old. Drink responsibly.
