About the Recipe

Fish cataplana highlights the Algarve coast and the closed cooking method, which preserves steam, aromas, and juices.

Even without the traditional pot, it is possible to adapt the idea using a well-covered pot.

Ingredients

  • 800 g of firm fish fillets
  • 2 sliced onions
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 1 red pepper
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 100 ml of white wine
  • 80 ml of olive oil
  • Cilantro or parsley
  • Salt and pepper

Preparation Method

  1. Layer onions, tomatoes, peppers, and fish.
  2. Season with garlic, salt, and pepper.
  3. Drizzle with olive oil and wine.
  4. Cover the pot well.
  5. Cook over medium heat until the fish is done.
  6. Finish with fresh herbs.

Tips from Empório Portugal

  • Do not stir too much to avoid breaking the fish.
  • A well-covered pot concentrates flavor.
  • Serve with bread or potatoes.

Possible Substitutions in Brazil

  • Use sea bass, hake, dogfish, or shark.
  • Cilantro can be replaced with parsley.

Pairing

White from the Algarve or Vinho Verde. Content intended for those over 18 years old. Drink responsibly.
