About the Recipe

Serradura is a beloved homemade dessert, known for its simplicity and contrast of textures.

The name evokes the appearance of fine sawdust from the crushed cookies between layers of cream.

As with many Portuguese recipes, there are variations by region, family, and cook — with condensed milk, cream, or dulce de leche.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of crushed Maria cookies
  • 500 ml of heavy cream
  • 200 g of condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon powder for sprinkling

Preparation Method

  1. Crush the cookies until you achieve a fine sand texture.
  2. Whip the cream with vanilla until stiff.
  3. Gently fold in the condensed milk.
  4. In a bowl or glass, alternate layers of cream and cookie.
  5. Finish with cream and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Tips from Empório Portugal

  • Very fine cookies improve the texture.
  • Assemble at the moment or refrigerate well before serving.
  • Transparent cups enhance the layers.

Possible Substitutions in Brazil

  • Digestive or cinnamon cookies work well.
  • Vegetable cream alters the consistency.

Pairing

Coffee or Muscatel from Setúbal. Content intended for those over 18 years old. Drink responsibly.
