About the Recipe

The Algarve almond tart highlights one of the most common ingredients in the confectionery of southern Portugal.

The soft base is topped with caramelized almonds, creating a contrast between the dough and the crunchiness.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of flour
  • 150 g of sugar
  • 100 g of butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 150 g of sliced almonds
  • 100 g of sugar for the topping
  • 80 ml of milk

Preparation Method

  1. Prepare the dough with flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and baking powder.
  2. Bake the base until it starts to firm up.
  3. Heat almonds, sugar, milk, and butter over the stove.
  4. Spread the topping over the base.
  5. Return to the oven until caramelized.
  6. Let cool before cutting.

Tips from Empório Portugal

  • Do not let the caramel darken too much.
  • Sliced almonds provide better texture.
  • Cut after it has cooled.

Possible Substitutions in Brazil

  • Sliced almonds can be substituted with slivered almonds.
  • Unsalted butter prevents excess salt.

Pairing

Coffee, black tea, or Moscatel. Content intended for those over 18 years old. Drink responsibly.
