Vinho Verde is one of the most recognized styles from Portugal and is linked to the Minho region in the northwest of the country. Despite the name, “verde” does not necessarily mean the color of the wine, but the idea of youth, freshness, and liveliness.

Light, aromatic, and refreshing, Vinho Verde is often associated with relaxed moments, warm days, seafood, fish, salads, snacks, and light dishes. It can be white, rosé, red, or sparkling, although the whites are the most internationally known.

Among the grape varieties associated with the region are Alvarinho, Loureiro, Arinto, Trajadura, and Avesso. Alvarinho, especially in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço, is one of the most valued expressions.

At Empório Portugal, Vinho Verde is an excellent entry point for new consumers of Portuguese wine. It allows for light, educational content that is very connected to gastronomy.
