About the recipe

Baked cod is a practical, creamy oven recipe that is very suitable for hosting guests.

Unlike more traditional preparations, it accommodates vegetables and a crunchy topping without losing the prominence of the cod.

Ingredients

  • 600 g of desalted and shredded cod
  • 2 boiled potatoes in cubes
  • 1 grated carrot
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 400 ml of white sauce
  • 80 ml of olive oil
  • Bread crumbs or mild cheese
  • Nutmeg and pepper

Preparation method

  1. Sauté onion, garlic, and carrot in olive oil.
  2. Add the cod and cook for a few minutes.
  3. Mix in the potatoes and white sauce.
  4. Season with pepper and nutmeg.
  5. Transfer to a dish and cover with bread crumbs or cheese.
  6. Bake until golden and bubbling.

Tips from Empório Portugal

  • The cream should be moist but not liquid.
  • Bread crumbs make for a lighter topping.
  • Only taste for salt after adding the cod.

Possible substitutions in Brazil

  • Fresh cream can soften the sauce.
  • Carrot can be replaced with leeks.

Pairing

White wine with acidity, such as Dão or Lisbon. Content intended for those over 18 years old. Drink responsibly.
