About the recipe
Cod fritters are flattened, golden fried bites full of flavor.
The batter includes shredded cod, eggs, flour, and herbs, resulting in a soft interior and crispy edges.

- 2 eggs
- 140 g of wheat flour
- 160 ml of water or cold water from cooking the cod
- 1 small chopped onion
- Chopped parsley
- Black pepper
- Oil for frying
Preparation method
- Mix eggs, flour, and water until a fluid, but not too liquid, batter forms.
- Add cod, onion, parsley, and pepper.
- Heat oil in a skillet and drop spoonfuls of the mixture.
- Fry until golden brown on both sides.
- Drain and serve hot.
- Serve with rice and beans or a simple salad.
Tips from Empório Portugal
- The batter should coat the cod without being heavy.
- If using water from the cod, be careful with the salt.
- Irregular edges are part of the charm of the fritters.
Possible substitutions in Brazil
- Regular flour works well; a bit of starch makes it lighter.
- Parsley can be replaced with cilantro in family versions.
